Many parents ask us whether karate can work for a child with autism. In our experience it often can, especially when lessons are adapted to how the child learns. Our online program started because a parent asked us to record lessons for her son with autism, who loved karate but could not attend class.
Some children find a busy dojo overwhelming, with new faces, noise and bright lights. Training at home lets your child learn in a familiar space, repeat a video as many times as they need, and practice when they are calm and ready. Parents can join in, which many kids enjoy.
Every child is different, so check with your child's doctor or therapist if you have questions about physical activity.
